Filipino Catering for Corporate Events in Halifax
A staff party, a client evening or a company milestone needs food that feeds a mixed room without anyone having to order. A Filipino buffet does that well: noodles, rice, grilled and braised dishes and something crisp, all set out to share.
If you are looking for corporate catering in Halifax, Barrios Kitchen & Bar caters company events from our kitchen at 1571 Barrington Street in downtown Halifax, either with the whole restaurant booked for your group or at your venue. Here is how it works, what it costs and what to settle before you book.
Company event catering: the package at a glance
$37 per person, plus 14 per cent HST on the food and a 15 per cent service fee. The service fee has no HST on it. It covers event coordination, preparation, staffing, packaging and the running costs of the event.
A minimum of 50 guests, in-house or off-site.
At least one to two weeks' notice.
Off-site catering covers Halifax, Dartmouth and the surrounding HRM. Transportation is added for off-site events, with 14 per cent HST on it.
As an example, 50 guests in our restaurant: $1,850 for the food, $259 HST on the food, and a $277.50 service fee with no HST, for a total of $2,386.50, about $47.73 a head. Off-site, add transportation and the HST on it. Prices shown are from our current menu and may change. If you are planning a December staff party, book early.
What is on the buffet
Every buffet includes one appetizer, one side, one noodle dish, four entrées (one from each category) and dessert.
Appetizer: spring rolls with sweet chili sauce.
Side, choose one: steamed rice, garlic rice, Java rice (a yellow fried rice) or mashed potato.
Noodles, choose one: pancit guisado, pancit bihon, pancit miki bihon (rice and egg noodles), truffle mushroom penne, baked macaroni or spaghetti.
Chicken: chicken inasal (grilled chicken marinated in citrus and garlic), grilled barbecue chicken, chicken ala king or chicken curry.
Beef: roast beef caldereta (in a Filipino tomato-based sauce), braised beef brisket with truffle mushroom sauce, or beef broccoli.
Pork: crispy kare-kare (our crispy pork take on the classic peanut stew), grilled pork ribs in barbecue sauce, or pork barbecue skewers.
Seafood: garlic shrimp, sweet and sour fish, or shrimp in coconut cream sauce.
Dessert: three assorted desserts, which vary.
For a room that is new to Filipino food, an easy mix is chicken inasal, roast beef caldereta, pork barbecue skewers and garlic shrimp, with pancit bihon and garlic rice. For a room that knows Filipino food, add the crispy kare-kare.
In-house: the whole restaurant for your event
An in-house event includes three hours of exclusive use of the whole restaurant, our audio and video system for presentations or speeches, and Eventra, a digital event suite. Water and pop are included, and sago gulaman, a sweet Filipino drink with tapioca pearls and jelly, can replace the pop on request at no extra charge.
We do not have a separate private room, so an in-house event books the whole restaurant, which seats up to 60. If your group is under 50, call or message us on Facebook about a private event anyway.
Off-site: at your office or venue
Our staff set up, bring the equipment, refill and arrange the food, and answer guests' questions about the dishes. Servers are not included. They can sometimes be arranged for an extra charge, depending on availability, so ask early. Drinks are not included off-site.
Add-ons
Photobooth: a digital package for $150, or a souvenir package for $240 with a printed template and 80 fridge magnets with 4x6 photos.
Kamayan feast: for a private in-house event, the food can be served on banana leaves to eat with your hands, at the normal catering price, with one to two weeks' notice.
Before you book
Headcount, date, start time and venue, including any access or setup limits at the venue.
Dietary needs. Several choices contain shellfish, and the kare-kare contains peanut. The buffet is built around meat and seafood, so tell us about allergies and vegetarian guests when you book and we will tell you what we can do.
Halal: we are not halal certified, and the kitchen handles pork.
Invoicing: we can invoice companies. Our system prints or emails an invoice with a QR code for payment.
