Restaurants Near Neptune Theatre: Where to Eat Before a Show in Halifax
Dinner before a show should feel like part of the night out, not a race against the curtain. Neptune Theatre is at 1593 Argyle Street, and Barrios Kitchen & Bar, a Filipino restaurant, is about a five-minute walk away at 1571 Barrington Street, just south of Sackville Street.
Here is how to plan your meal around the show: when to sit down, what to order, and when it makes more sense to eat after the curtain comes down.
How far is Barrios from Neptune Theatre?
About five minutes on foot. That short walk is the main advantage: park once, eat with us, and walk over to the theatre without moving the car.
How early should you eat before a Neptune show?
Plan to sit down about 90 minutes before the start time on your ticket. For a 7:30 PM show, that means a table at around 6 PM. It gives you time to order, eat without rushing, settle the bill and still reach your seat with a few minutes to spare.
Book ahead for Friday and Saturday show nights, and choose a table time that leaves room for the five-minute walk. When you sit down, tell your server what time you need to leave.
From Tuesday to Thursday we close at 9 PM, with the last booked table at 8 PM, so on those nights dinner comes before the show.
What should you order before a show?
Several of our dishes are easy to share, so a couple can split a few plates and a group can add noodles and one larger main. Prices are from our menu in October 2026.
Spring rolls, $9 for four. Our lumpiang shanghai, crisp rolls of seasoned ground pork and vegetables with sweet chili sauce.
Barbecue skewers, $15 for three. Filipino-style marinated pork, grilled to a sweet, smoky finish. Gluten free.
Pork sisig, $20. Chopped roasted pork with soy sauce and chili, sizzling on a cast iron plate with a raw egg on top and steamed rice. Mix the egg through while the plate is still hot, then squeeze the lemon over it. A full meal.
Chicken inasal, $22. Grilled chicken marinated in citrus, garlic and spices, with garlic rice and a soy vinegar dip. A good pick if someone does not eat pork.
Save the bigger showpieces, like kare-kare at $22 or crispy pata at $27, for a longer night. They are big, rich plates best shared slowly.
If someone at the table is vegetarian, the pinakbet at $14 is made without shrimp paste or fish sauce, and the torta at $12 is an eggplant omelette.
What is on at Neptune Theatre this season?
As announced for the 2026-27 season in January 2026: Women of the Fur Trade runs September 22 to October 11, 2026, and Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors runs September 29 to October 25. Deepwater follows from October 20 to November 1.
The holidays bring Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical, November 12, 2026 to January 10, 2027, and Dickens' A Christmas Carol, November 24 to December 27, 2026. Kids are welcome, and we have high chairs. For a group of eight or more, call ahead.
Looking further ahead, Les Misérables runs from March 30 to June 6, 2027. Dates can change, so check neptunetheatre.com for show times.
Can you eat after the show instead?
Yes, on Fridays and Saturdays, if the timing works. We are open until 11 PM, and the last seating is 10 PM. A show that lets out by about 9:30 PM gives you time to walk over and sit down. If yours ends at 10, eat before the show instead. Call 902-444-2515 if you are close to the line.
After a matinee from Tuesday to Saturday, dinner after the show works too.
For a Sunday matinee, come for our Filipino Sunday brunch first, served from 10:30 AM to 4 PM at $29 for adults. Sunday is brunch only, so there is no dinner after an evening show.
